I developed the Mycropus for Captain Maury Hatch. Every year he hosts several fly fishing trips at the Tarpon Cay Lodge in Rio Lagartos, Yucatan, Mexico. This area is a Biosphere Reserve famous for chasing juvenile tarpon. The Mycropus imitates the small baby octopus found in the Reserve and I have modified Homer Rhodes' original Seaducer fly pattern by adding a small Elk Hair bullet head under the forward hackle. This modification provides some neutral buoyancy to the fly, allowing the tarpon to locate the Mycropus before it is stripped just under the surface.
